Knitting on A Plane?

So as you know I'm off and about very soon, on a very very long flight or two, and I need something to keep my fingers busy for 12 hours or more....

Of course, I want to knit - as always. But then again, what happens when you mix these two?

Does anyone have any experience with this that they would like to share?  

I was thinking of using bamboo circular needles size 10 and knit a large tube scarf.  Simple and quick, and hopefully I'll be all done when arriving at my destination.

I've read things online that says I should be able to bring, as long as they don't look threatening...  Hm.  
What do you think?
